ATA RULES AND REGULATIONS
The Animal Talent Academy of Australia was formed to provide a resource for pet owners who want to do more with their animals.
-
All behaviours or tricks need to be taught using a positive approach and the animal should clearly enjoy performing them. This does not mean that the handler is not allowed to use some gentle corrections while training, but the overall approach needs to be positive. The animal should genuinely enjoy doing the tricks and have a positive relationship with the handler.
-
The handler must ensure the safety of the animal and the people around at all times. All tricks need to be performed in a safe environment.
-
The handler must be ready to spot or support the animal at any point. Any jumping has to be done safely and only at an appropriate height to the animal. You need to consider heights carefully for younger or older animals or for health reasons. Plan all tricks with your animals wellbeing in mind.
-
All tasks need to be filmed for assessment.
-
The animal needs to be fully visible in each video for the whole duration of the assessed behaviour. Each video must have the original sounds (no music overlay).
-
No physical manipulation of the animal is allowed during the task. Your animal needs to perform all tricks willingly and independently.
-
In the Foundation level title treats or toys may be used as lures to perform the behaviour. Treats and toys are not to be used as lures at the Intermediate, Advanced and Champion levels. Treats and other rewards can be given after the trick is completed. When performing a sequence of behaviours a reward can be given after completion of the sequence.
-
Handlers can use verbal or visual commands. If the animal routinely requires more than two repetitions of the command then more work needs to be done before the animal is ready for the title submission.
-
Each handler/animal combination must pass each title before advancing to a title of a higher level. i.e. You must pass the Foundation title before submitting the Intermediate title, and so on.
-
The videoclips do not need to be recorded on the same day or in one take/place.
-
All behaviours and tricks are performed at your own risk and the Animal Actors Academy of Australia or anyone associated with it is not liable in any way whatsoever for any harm or injury, or potential injury. The Handler has full responsibility for assessment and management of any risks, suitability, safety and harm prevention.
