THINK LIKE YOUR DOG
Understanding Behaviour Through Stress, Emotion and Real Life
AMY CURRAN

This book isn’t about obedience, dominance, or quick fixes.

Think Like Your Dog is about understanding what your dog is trying to tell you - and learning how to respond with clarity, kindness, and respect.

Written for people who know their dog isn’t “bad,” just overwhelmed, misunderstood, or doing their best.

About the book

Think Like Your Dog grew out of real dogs, real families, and real moments where traditional answers didn’t fit.

It explores behaviour as communication, not defiance, and offers a different way of seeing dogs - one that centres the nervous system, emotional safety, and relationship.

Inside, you’ll find:

  • clear explanations without judgement

  • real-life examples from families and dogs

  • insights grounded in lived experience, not theory alone

  • reassurance for people who feel like they’re failing their dog

This is not a step-by-step training manual. It’s a perspective shift - and a kinder starting point.

Why this book exists

This book exists because of my dog, Bernie.

Bernie is a very big, very earnest Bernese Mountain Dog who loves other dogs with an enthusiasm they don’t always return. For a long time, I wanted to change that. Instead, he changed my thinking.

Once I stopped trying to fix him and started changing the world around him, everything softened. That shift became the foundation of this book.

Who this book is for

This book is for you if:

It’s also for the dogs who are often labelled “too much,” when they’re really just asking for understanding
